Star Parties
On any night during which the sky is sufficiently clear, I will host a star party using my Celestron 5SE Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and Stellarium running on my laptop, so that others can determine, at a glance, the celestial objects that are above the horizon at that place and time. I will also introduce others to astrophotography by mounting my Canon DSLR camera to the back of the telescope. This is an ideal time and place for a star party, since we will be at high elevation and away from light pollution, and Porcfest XI occurs during a new moon (ensuring dark skies). There are a lot of nice deep sky objects visible in late June.

Humans vs Zombies

Humans vs. Zombies is a game of tag. All players begin as humans, and three may volunteer to be the zombies. It is not required, but it is recommended that at least one adult is to be a zombie so there can be a contrast between the age groups. If three people do not volunteer, three people will be selected to be the zombies.

 The Objective

  • All humans except for one to be turned into zombies. Once the last man standing is determined, the game ends.

Equipment

  • A bandana to symbolize which team you are on.
  • Foam dart blasters, socks, marshmallow launchers, foam swords, and anything that can be deemed safe to hit people with.

Safety Rules

We all want to have fun while playing HvZ, so it is always good that nobody gets hurt while playing. Here are some of the rules to help keep injuries to a minimum.

  • Be sure to bring shoes you can run in. You don’t want to trip and fall in the campground when there are zombies chasing you.
  • Weapons must not hurt on impact.
  • If someone has been shot or tagged, do not continue to shoot or tag them.

Safe Zones

There are some places where humans and/or zombies can rest. These are counted as “safe zones”, as they are areas where the game is not in effect. Tagging someone in these areas are not counted as turns/stuns. Players within these zones cannot ‘camp’ in a manner of speaking. Players can stay in these zones for 15-30 minutes at maximum. Zombies/humans are not to crowd these areas in wait of someone coming out. Be mindful of your peers.

  • Bathrooms
  • Food vendors
  • Tent sites
  • Other events

Human Rules

The survivor team comprised of those who are to brave the apocalypse. Human players can be determined by the headband around their arm or leg.

  • Stunning a Zombie: Humans can stun a zombie by shooting them with their foam dart blaster, throwing a sock at them, or hitting them with a melee weapon.
  • When tagged: When tagged by a zombie, the human is to remove their headband from their arm, and place it on their head. A tag is a firm grasp, rather than a graze. A zombie can’t just pat someone on the shoulder to turn them.

Zombie Rules

The undead horde comprised of the unlucky souls who were infected from the start. Zombies can be determined by the headband around their head.

  • Feeding: When a human turns into a zombie, they have an unnatural hunger for brains. To turn a human into a fellow zombie, the zombie must grasp a human. Grazing does not count as turning, as stated in the human rules.
  • Being Stunned: When a human player shoots you with a dart, hits you with a foam sword or a sock you are counted as being “stunned”. Once stunned, you are to kneel on the ground and count to 30 out loud. Fast counting is not aloud.

Miscellaneous Rules

  • Do not blast/tag non-players.
  • Non-players are not to interfere with gameplay. This includes but is not limited to spying for either team, or trying to stun a zombie/tag a human if they are not participating.
  • Players are not to guard safe zones or camp at safe zones. Any action taken within the safe zone is not counted as taking place in-game.
  • Zombies are not to use equipment of any sort. This includes shields and weapons. Neither humans nor zombies are allowed to use shields of any sort. A zombie ducking for cover behind a tree, camp sight, or any type of environment does not count as using a shield.
  • Be mindful of Rogers Campground and Porcfests rules as well.

We hope you have fun…and happy hunting.

Putting Your Love in ReLoveution: Using Gratitude for Success
We who love human freedom often fall into despair, sometimes frustration, and, let's be honest, occasionally anger. Because we see our goal so far in the future, the unnecessary pain of the present, and the lack of understanding all around us; can we blame ourselves if we despair that we ever achieving freedom in our lifetime.
But is despair, frustration, and anger the most effective way to attract freedom?

We want human freedom because of our love for and respect of our fellow humans. We want them to be able to reach their full potential, absent artificial, external, violent constraints. We want them to live how they know, deep in their hearts, how they would prefer to live -- in peaceful community, in voluntary cooperation, honoring and respecting each other as a valuable, unique, autonomous human beings deserving of freedom to achieve their goals and dreams.

This workshop focuses us back into our hearts and gets us back in touch with the deep love that underlies our movement. It helps us practice sharing that love and respect and gratitude with others.

This is an experiential workshop where you will work with partners and interact with the group to practice sharing the love, hope, and peace that underlie our movement.

Dennis Pratt is the Organizer of the Personal Growth Network, a Greater Boston group of 30 event organizers and 100s of workshops that seek to remove artificial *internal* constraints on human potential. The FSP is the extension of this concept to include removing artificial external constraints, but we must ensure we internally resonate with our external goal. Mr. Pratt is also the City Director of Insight Boston. Insight Seminars has enhanced human potential for decades, training Tony Robbins and has been led by renown facilitators including Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul.)

Please come and play with us, not only to learn how to be more effective in tense situations, but also to experience more joy and gratitude as you attract ever more human freedom.

2014 Newbie and Advanced Shoot, Sponsored by Shaolin Rifleworks
2014 marks the return of the ever-popular Newbie Shoot, and, as an added bonus, this year we will be incorporating an advanced shoot as well! Shaolin Rifleworks has stepped up to the plate to sponsor the Newbie Shoot, so that novice or brand new shooters can learn to use firearms in a safe environment, with experienced guides, FREE of charge!

Shooters MUST attend a brief (but mandatory) meeting outside the Media Room Friday morning at 10am sharp. We will discuss firearms safety in detail, and by 10:30am we will depart in a convoy for the Dalton Gang Shooting Club in Dalton, NH, about 15 minutes away.

Upon arrival at the Dalton range, shooters will be split up into groups, given another reminder of firearms safety rules, and then they will approach the firing lanes one at a time. We usually have 4-5 lanes open, with a Range Safety Officer attending each lane assisting shooters. Firearms and ear/eye protection will be provided to shooters at the firing line.

After completing their initial shooting experience, shooters will then be given the option to head over to the Shaolin Rifleworks lane, where "big guns" will be available for them to try out. The "big guns" lane will be a reasonably-priced pay-as-you-go lane. There may even be some...full-auto machine guns...available for your enjoyment :)

This event is suitable for shooters from ages 1 to 100, but if you're a young shooter, please bring a parent or other responsible adult individual along with you. The gracious owners of the Dalton Gang club usually make hot dogs, chips, and soda/water available to guests for a very reasonable price.

Firearms owners and experienced shooters are welcome at the shoot.

Please contact Matt Roach or Laird McSmith for more information, to donate, or to volunteer.

Midsummer Pagan Ritual
Litha/Midsummer is the longest day and the shortest night of the year. The Goddess is now in full bloom and pregnant with Child, and the Sun God is at the the prime of His virility. This is the peak of the Solar year and the Sun is at the height of its life-giving power. The Earth is in full bloom and everything is lush and green symbolic of fertility and fulfillment and this is a time of joy and celebration, of expansiveness and the celebration of achievements.

Yet within this abundance is the hidden shadow and promise of a return to the Dark. As the Light reaches its peak so this is also the moment when the power of the Sun begins to wane. From now on the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer and we are drawn back into the Dark to complete the Wheel of the Year. So we celebrate the abundance and plenty that has been gifted us and take that joy and gratitude into the turning of the wheel as the Sun King  continues along his path of decent bringing us the dark side of the year.

Gods and Masters: When the Moon Turns Black
Though occupied by the heavy-handed Gronman Empire, the city of Ndokijo has remained relatively free. Its people live in defiance of imperial law, travelling to and from foreign territory with ease, trading in myriad illegal goods, and circumventing Gronman censors.
But now the empire is playing nasty. In her first day on the job, the newly appointed High Inquisitor Prylana has burned the only free press to the ground, imposed a strict military curfew, and imprisoned over a dozen agorist vendors.
Someone needs to break these entrepreneurs out of prison before they end up on the business end of a firing squad. Someone needs to keep the black market and illicit arms trade running, turning a tidy profit in the meantime. And someone needs to deal with High Inquisitor Prylana, before she crushes the spirit of a free city. That someone is you.

This event is a fantasy Role-Playing Game with heavy liberty elements. Players will use the Savage Worlds system. Everything will be provided, from pre-generated character sheets and dice to miniatures. Experienced gamers and new players alike are welcome.
